Popular K-pop girl group NewJeans is set to perform during the halftime show of the much-anticipated match between Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and Bundesliga club Bayern Munich on August 3. The announcement was made by the girl group’s agency, ADOR, on Thursday.

This historic match marks the first-ever meeting between Tottenham and Bayern Munich in Korea and will take place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo District, western Seoul. NewJeans expressed their excitement about the opportunity, stating, “We are thrilled to be performing the halftime show for the dream match between Munich and Tottenham. We will present a stage that will further heat up the atmosphere in the stadium.”

The game is part of the Coupang Play Series, a preseason series initiated in 2022 by Korean e-commerce company Coupang. The series typically features several European clubs and an All-Star Team K League, providing thrilling preseason action for football fans in Korea. This match will be Bayern Munich’s first visit to Korea since the German club’s establishment in 1900. It will also be Tottenham Hotspur’s second appearance in the series.

The excitement surrounding the match is heightened by the presence of famed Korean footballers Son Heung-min and Kim Min-jae, who play for Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, respectively. However, as of Thursday morning, it has not been disclosed whether these two star players will participate in the match.

In addition to the main event on August 3, Team K League, consisting of 22 K League players (12 voted by fans and 10 selected by K League coaches), will face off against Bayern Munich on August 2, following a match against Tottenham Hotspur on July 31.

NewJeans, who debuted in July 2022, has quickly risen to become one of the hottest girl groups in K-pop. They have released several hit songs, including “Attention” (2022), “Ditto” (2022), “ETA” (2023), and “OMG” (2023). Their popularity extends beyond Korea, as demonstrated by their successful debut in Japan with the single “Supernatural” on June 21. They also filled the Tokyo Dome for their meet and greet event, “Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome,” held on June 26 and 27.

As fans eagerly await the Tottenham-Bayern clash, NewJeans’ halftime performance promises to add an extra layer of excitement to an already thrilling event.
